The organisaton is overseen by the Board of Trustees, who are all volunteers. Their role is to ensure that Manchester Care and Repair acts within its mandate, legally and in accordance with charitable principles.They work closely with the Chief Executive to define the organisation’s goals and plans and ensure the organisation is well led.
Tom McDonald joined the Board in 2021. Tom has had a long and broad career encompassing roles in Adult Social Care at local and national levels as well as experience of integrated services. A social worker by training, Tom has also served as a non-executive Director at a housing association, a hospital governor and as a trustee for a number of other charities. Tom acts as Safeguarding Trustee for the organisation.
Pam Smith joined the Board in 2004. Pam used to be a Social Worker and worked for over 30 years for Manchester City Council, in the main with older people. Pam now works as a dementia support advisor for a Community Mental Health Team within the NHS.
Darren Mort joined the Board in 2021. Darren works for NHS Digital and has a wealth of experience working on local, regional and national initiatives. He has spent his whole career in IT and brings a mass of technical skills and expertise that will help us to improve our use of technology. Darren is Chair of the Audit Committee.
Janat brings a wealth of experience from a successful executive career within a major retail and commercial bank. She has extensive experience at both strategic and operational levels, enjoys innovation and working with people to achieve change. Janat holds a number of other NED roles and is a member of Manchester Care and Repair’s Barrack St Project Group.
Adrian has enjoyed a long career working in financial services, financial regulation and advising on governance, risk and controls. He has strong experience working in FCA regulated environments and is Chair of The Manchester Care and Repair Audit and Risk Committee. He enjoys rugby, cricket and golf and is an avid follower of the Welsh national Rugby Team and is the Chair of an anti-poverty charity in Flintshire.
Theresa has worked in Senior HR roles across the public, not for profit and housing association sectors for over 30 years. Passionate about inclusion, fairness and engagement she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Manchester Care and Repair’s Board. Theresa is currently taking a gap year (or two), having recently moved to Manchester she is enjoying getting to know the city, doing some voluntary work and playing tennis.
Beth has a background in programme management and fundraising within the international development sector, currently working as Head of Older People’s Programmes for World Jewish Relief. Beth oversees programmes for vulnerable older people in Ukraine and surrounding countries, with a focus on health and social care, and leading on dementia awareness. Beth is a fluent Russian speaker and lives in Manchester with her husband and two young children.
Faye is an architectural lighting designer by background, working with architects, interior designers, M & E teams and end clients for 20+years. She now works at a lighting manufacturer, supplying light products, bespoke luminaires & lighting designs. She is a keen allotmenteer, theatre goer and likes all things art & design based.
